4.9.09 good reads!

Caramelo Caramelo by Sandra Cisneros

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
this book took me almost a year to read...now that i'm done, i love it! but it took me a while to love it...the beginning was good but it took a while to develop all the characters. but, worth the wait to understand each character's background and story, since they all overlapped with each other.

what a work of art. i kind of want to read it again but this time see how fast i can read it. just kidding. there are so many people out there like lala's character; second, third generation latino. feeling like a ping pong ball when relating between two cultures and i think in this story, generations as well.

if you've ever driven from chicago to texas to mexico and back, you'll relate.

if you have a mexican family, you'll understand.

if you've romanced about your family's past, your heart will sink.

if you're a woman longing to see the world again through your eyes when you were just a girl, read this book!

yay for 8 months of caramelo!

I actually began reading this book after seeing it on your myspace blog ; it's a nice cover. The cover on my copy doesn't have that girl on it ; it's just yellow.
I began reading it and thought it was cool ; i was surprise to read that part about Elvis - that sucked. I haven't finished reading it but maybe someday.
By the way if your interested in reading about the struggle of minorities ; "Invisible man" is good - i began reading it too but also haven't finished it either. So many books so little time
